Hapkido is a Korean martial art for self defense. In English, the  name Hapkido has many translations. It has been explained as  "The way of harmony of energy." Or also "The way of  coordinated power." And though I have seen, heard and read it  translated in many different ways, the idea has remained the  same. The Hap means everything together or combining or  harmonizing. Ki stands for energy (Internal and External). Do  (pronounced DOE) means "the way of."  Hapkido defends against wrist grabs, clothing grabs, body  grabs as well as defense against strikes, kicks or weapon  attacks. There are many striking, kicking, throwing and joint  locking techniques. Jung Ki Hapkido is traditional Hapkido. It is  different from most other styles. It's strong principle and  foundation are demonstrated in it's techniques. Not all Hapkido  is the same. Some styles are very fancy and beautiful for  demonstration. Other styles are exactly the opposite. Jung Ki  Hapkido is very effective and can be exciting to watch. This  style of Hapkido is taught to Master May by his teacher  Grandmaster Lim, Hyun Su who was taught by Great  Grandmaster Choi, Yong Sool; the founder of Hapkido.
